1.In the 1950s, its predecessor, "Sichuan Provincial State-owned New Machinery Factory", embarked on the design and manufacture of diesel engines. In 1972, it was officially renamed Chongqing Automobile Engine Factory, with a focus on producing the French Berliet 6140 heavy-duty engine.

2.On March 26, 1981, it formally signed a license agreement with Cummins, marking Cummins' first license production agreement in China. Subsequently, the production of Cummins NH and K series high-power diesel engines commenced in Chongqing, filling a void in the domain of high-power diesel engines in the Chinese market.

3.On January 28, 1995, the joint venture contract of Chongqing Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. was officially inked in Beijing. On October 1 of the same year, Chongqing Cummins Co., Ltd. officially commenced operations, and on October 6, it produced the first engine with the serial number 41030001. This signified the official establishment and production launch of the first engine joint venture by Cummins in China. It serves as the starting point of Cummins' localized production in China, the earliest engine joint venture, and is also Cummins' largest specialized manufacturing facility for heavy-duty and high-power engines in China.

4.In 2005, Chongqing Cummins continuously tailored its offerings to market demands, providing customers with high-quality, reliable, and high-performance high-power diesel engines. This earned industry recognition and led to a dual breakthrough in the production and sales of 10,000 engines.

5.In 2006, the introduction of Cummins QSK19 and QSK38 fully electronically controlled engines enhanced its competitiveness in the domestic high-power engine arena.

6.In November 2011, the annual production and sales of engines surpassed 20,000 units, achieving a doubling growth rate.

7.In 2013, the two shareholders assigned a new strategic positioning to Chongqing Cummins – to mold it into Cummins' global high-power R&D and production base. On August 28, Chongqing Machinery & Electronics Co., Ltd. and Cummins (China) Investment Co., Ltd. officially inked an agreement to establish the Chongqing Cummins high-power engine technology R&D center and production line.

8.On January 27, 2015, the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Chongqing Cummins high-power engine technology R&D center and production line project was held, marking the official ground-breaking of the BFG project for the future significant development of Chongqing Cummins. On July 19, 2017, the ground-breaking ceremony of the Chongqing Cummins high-power engine R&D center was held.

9.In the first half of 2018, Chongqing Cummins engines sustained excellent performance in multiple market segments such as power generation, construction machinery, and ships, earning deep trust from users. Its per capita production and sales volume and per capita profit reached record highs since the establishment of the joint venture.

10.On September 3, 2019, the Chongqing Cummins Technology Center officially opened. It stands as Cummins' first high-power engine R&D center in China. The first phase of this technology center planned six engine test rooms and invested in the equipment of five of them, equipped with an advanced electric dynamometer system with a maximum power of 3,500 kilowatts, capable of undertaking performance tests, emission tests, and reliability tests of engines with displacements ranging from 14L to 72L.

The Chinese parent company of Chongqing Cummins is Chongqing Machinery & Electronics Co., Ltd., and the foreign parent company is Cummins (China) Investment Co., Ltd. Both parties have an equal 50% investment ratio. Currently, there are over 1,400 employees. The company mainly produces heavy-duty and high-power diesel engines, and its products are widely assembled by major Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and are exported globally. Throughout its development journey, the company has consistently driven technological innovation and product upgrades, making significant contributions to the heavy-duty and high-power engine markets in China and on a global scale.
